Why Convert OGG to ADX file?

ADX is CRI Middleware's ADPCM format, the audio container used by a long line of Sega titles and by games built on the CRI engine. Tools that import audio into those games expect ADX and nothing else, so an OGG Vorbis track has to be converted before it can be packed back in. Outside of game modding there is little reason to hold audio as ADX.

Keep in mind that this is a lossy source going into a lossy codec: OGG has already discarded detail, and ADX ADPCM compresses the decoded result again. For speech and music headed into a game that is normally fine, but it is not a step to repeat. ADX also uses fixed-rate ADPCM, so the file often ends up larger than the OGG it came from, and the loop points a game relies on are set by the modding tool, not by the conversion.
