What is JFIF ?

JFIF, the JPEG File Interchange Format, is how JPEG-compressed pictures are stored in a file: the compressed image data plus a short header giving the version, resolution and an optional thumbnail. A .jfif file is a JPEG — the same bytes most software calls .jpg — under an older extension.

What is CMYK ?

CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black), which are the primary colors used in color printing. This format is essential for producing accurate color prints, as it corresponds to the ink colors used in the printing process.

Why Convert JFIF to CMYK file?

A JFIF is just a JPEG under the extension browsers use when saving images, and like every JPEG it stores colour as red, green and blue — the way a screen makes light. CMYK describes the opposite process: cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks laid on paper. Converting to CMYK is a step towards print, and the output here is raw CMYK sample data, four channels of pixel values with no header wrapped around them.

Two things are worth knowing before you rely on it. Because the file carries no header, whatever opens it has to be told the width, height and bit depth; keep a note of the original dimensions or the data is hard to use. And an RGB to CMYK conversion without a press-specific ICC profile is a generic one, so bright screen colours that no ink can reproduce will shift, and the result is a reasonable approximation rather than a set of print-ready separations signed off for a particular press.
