Why Convert MOV to ADX file?

ADX is CRI Middleware's ADPCM audio format, the one a long line of Sega and CRI-engine games use for their voices and music, and the one their repacking tools expect. A MOV is a QuickTime video, so this conversion is really an extraction: the audio track is pulled out of the video and written as ADX, which is what you need when the sound you want to put into a game happens to live inside a clip.

The picture is discarded — there is nowhere for video to go in an audio format. It is also a lossy source becoming a lossy file: whatever codec the MOV used has already compressed the sound, and ADPCM compresses the decoded result again, so start from the best version of the clip you have. ADX uses a fixed compression rate, so the audio often takes more space than it did inside the MOV, and the loop points a game relies on are written by its modding tools rather than by this conversion.
