What is THP ?

THP files are video files that are used by certain Nintendo gaming consoles, namely the Wii and GameCube. Thus, they can hardly be played by any video player or another program outside the specific games and consoles. “Normal” video players do not support THP files. The video content of the THP file can be made up of different video content used for cutscenes inside the games and the like.

It’s not very easy to get a hold of THP files. They are usually inside the disc image file (ISO) created by Wii or GameCube games. The games use the THP file to play different cinematic content inside the games, such as cutscenes, intros, credits, etc. The frames of the video are made up of image information similar to JPEG images. Audio information, if present in the THP video, is represented using Adaptive Differential Pulse-Code Modulation (adpcm).
